Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions about our image converter
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. All processing happens locally in your browser. Your images never leave your device.
Is there a watermark?
Never. The free and Pro versions both output watermark-free images.
What is AVIF?
AVIF is a modern image format based on the AV1 video codec, offering 40–50% smaller file sizes than JPEG at equivalent visual quality. It is supported by Chrome, Firefox, and Safari 16+ (92%+ global browser coverage). Google recommends AVIF for SEO and Core Web Vitals optimization.
What happens to EXIF metadata?
By default, all EXIF metadata (including GPS location) is stripped during conversion for privacy. Pro users can enable 'Keep EXIF' to preserve camera settings in JPEG output.
Are animated GIFs supported?
GIF files are converted to a static first frame. Animated GIFs cannot be preserved as the output formats (WebP, AVIF, JPG, PNG) are static image formats.
What is the difference between WebP and AVIF?
WebP offers 25–35% compression savings over JPEG with fast encoding and 97%+ browser support. AVIF offers 40–50% savings but encodes slower and has 92% browser support. Use WebP for broad compatibility and fast processing; use AVIF for maximum compression on photography and hero images.
Is BulkPicConv really free?
Yes. The core converter is completely free with no watermarks, no sign-up, and no file limits. Pro plans unlock advanced features like AI recommendations, watermarking, cropping, filters, and EXIF preservation.
What input formats are supported?
BulkPicConv accepts JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, HEIC/HEIF, and WebP as input. Output is available in WebP, AVIF, JPEG, and PNG formats.
Can I convert images in bulk?
Yes. Drag and drop multiple images at once, or use Ctrl+V to paste from clipboard. The converter processes all images in parallel using Web Workers, so even hundreds of images convert quickly without freezing your browser.
Does BulkPicConv work offline?
Once the page is loaded, the conversion engine works entirely offline. You do not need an internet connection for the actual image processing. However, you need to be online to load the page initially.
What is the best quality setting for WebP?
Quality 80–85 is the industry sweet spot. At quality 85, WebP files are typically 60–70% smaller than the original JPEG with zero perceptible visual difference. Quality 95+ produces unnecessarily large files with barely visible improvement.
Can I resize images during conversion?
Yes. You can set a maximum width and/or height before converting. This is useful for reducing file sizes further — a 4000×3000 photo displayed at 800×600 has 25x more pixels than needed.
Is there an API available?
Yes. BulkPicConv offers a REST API for programmatic image conversion, AI alt text generation, and background removal. See our API Documentation for details. Free tier available with no credit card required.
Do you have a WordPress plugin?
Yes. The BulkPicConv WordPress plugin automatically converts uploaded images to WebP/AVIF, outputs picture element tags for format fallback, and supports AI alt text generation. It is free to use with a BulkPicConv account.
What browsers are supported?
BulkPicConv works on all modern browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera. For the best experience, we recommend the latest version of Chrome or Firefox.
How does BulkPicConv compare to TinyPNG or Squoosh?
Unlike TinyPNG, BulkPicConv processes images locally (no uploads) and supports batch conversion of unlimited files for free. Unlike Squoosh, BulkPicConv handles multiple images at once and includes features like watermarking, presets, and workflow automation. See our comparison page for details.
Can I use BulkPicConv for commercial purposes?
Yes. Both the free and Pro versions can be used for commercial work — client projects, e-commerce product photos, agency workflows, and more. There are no restrictions on how you use the output images.
